What is a Mojito?

A Mojito is a Cuban highball cocktail and is traditionally made with white rum, sugar (or, if you can get some, sugar cane juice), lime, carbonated water, and mint.

Here is how to make the perfect Mojito.

  • Add lime juice to the sugar and mint leaves
  • Mash gently. (Care must be taken so as not to shred the mint leaves)
  • Add the rum
  • Stir briefly. This will dissolve the sugar and agitate the mint sprigs for presentation
  • Top with with ice cubes and sparkling water
  • Finally, add mint leaves and lime wedges to garnish
  • Drink... but very carefully

For a stronger, heavier drink, dark rum may be used. For a more tangy variation, lime wedges can be added along with the mint and sugar before mashing.

The Mojitos website wants you to know that alcohol is best taken with adult supervision and that if anyone does anything silly while under its influence (such as hurling themselves onto a drum kit) they will rightly be subject to ridicule and abuse (both physical and psychological) for the rest of their natural born days or until they have said sorry and replaced the entire drum kit with a brand new one.
